Autumn is that time of year when Mother Nature showcases her phenomenal colours. And my, doesn’t she do a wonderful job!
Here are some cool photos taken near Campbellton, New Brunswick, in late September and early October 2019 …
But first … courtesy of Victoria Erickson, this little ditty about fall: “If a year was tucked inside a clock, then autumn would be the magic hour.”
Sprinkled throughout this post are more quotes from poets and philosophers.
Some of the best things in life are free — and so too are these images. Help yourself. [They make great screen savers.]

PHOTOS
The first batch of pictures was taken near Morrissey Rock [a lookout point just west of Tide Head] …
“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the Earth seeking the successive autumns.” [George Eliot]
Here are pictures taken on the well-maintained Terry Fox Trail which circles Sugarloaf Mountain, on Campbellton’s South side.
Canada has at least nine Terry Fox Trails.
“Autumn is the hardest season. The leaves are falling, and they’re falling like they’re falling in love with the ground.” [Andrea Gibson]
Pics of Sugarloaf Mountain and area …
“How beautiful the leaves grow old. How full of light and colour are their last days.” [John Burroughs]

[South of the Sugarloaf: a crossroads in the middle of nowhere]

[Note the outline of the Terry Fox Trail. Top right shows part of the ring road at the hospital complex]

The focus now on Campbellton itself. The community was founded in 1837, established as a town in 1889 and as a city in 1958. Campbellton still retains city status even though its population has fallen considerably.
Here are a few shots from the road to L’Alverne, Quebec, La Petite Riviere du Loup … starting off with the cool Hobbit-like home of Carmelle Bujold …
“Two sounds of autumn are unmistakable … the hurrying rustle of crisp leaves blown along the street by a gusty wind, and the gabble of a flock of migrating geese.” [Hal Borland]

Hmmm. Didn’t know there was a small lake atop those mountains north of Pointe-à la-Croix [Cross Point] …

Finally, these shots from near Kedgwick, on the highway to St. Leonard and Edmundston …
“Notice that autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature.” [Friedrich Nietzsche]

It’s been many years since I was back home to take a drive up river to see the leaves in full colour. I miss it big time.

Byron, you’re the best. Your photos are awesome.
You make me want to see them all the time — which I do. I still have the one taken in 1969 that you posted [on a previous article], then I cry because my Dad was a brick layer for the first Provincial Hospital. When I was a child, I brought my dad lunch every day.
Byron, I’m going to miss you on DownHomers Are Us [Facebook]. Love you for everything you do for us older citizens … also the young.
Will never forget you for what you do for Campbellton.
